Our featured ISWAN member for April is KVH.

At its heart, ISWAN is a membership organisation and we are proud to have a network of over 80 members who are committed to improving the lives of seafarers worldwide.

Our members reflect the diversity present in the shipping industry today, from shipping companies to unions and insurance groups to welfare organisations, and bring a wealth of experience.

Our Member of the Month this April is KVH.

WHO are you?

KVH Industries, Inc., is a global leader in mobile connectivity, content, and value-added services delivered via innovative technology designed to keep vessels and their crew always connected. KVH develops and supports maritime communication hardware and services worldwide. Founded in 1982, the company has more than a dozen offices around the globe with research and development operations based in Middletown, RI, USA.

WHAT do you do and why is seafarers’ welfare important to you?

Seafarers keep the world moving. They spend extended periods of time away from loved ones, working long hours in difficult conditions. We depend on them for food, fuel, medicine, and other essentials. Connectivity is crucial to crew welfare. KVH strives to support crew welfare for seafarers around the world with a continued focus on connectivity technology, services, and content. We’re proud of the groundbreaking hardware we support that ensures crews are always connected. We also employ over 65 people dedicated to the technology, writing, and editing of content. Our KVH Link service features hundreds of news stories, movies, TV shows, music radio and karaoke, social videos, sporting events and stats, and documentaries. We ensure content is tailored to diverse crew populations and languages. We recognize the importance of crew bonding onboard and offer sports coverage, karaoke, and movies that are perfect for crew gatherings to meet this need.

WHY are you a member of ISWAN?

KVH admires ISWAN’s focus on higher standards for seafarer welfare, and it mirrors our own focus on keeping crew connected as a fundamental need, wherever they might sail across the globe. We believe our technology, services, crew content, and ongoing efforts to be a contributing part of the maritime community are a good fit for ISWAN’s mission, and we look forward to partnering on events, content, and other initiatives for the good of seafarers everywhere, offering unwavering support for ISWAN’s mission and all who serve on the sea.
