Social Interaction Matters (SIM) Project Report Phase Three

Phase Three of ISWAN’s Social Interaction Matters (SIM) Project presents landmark, cross-industry research exploring the role of social interaction in shaping seafarers’ wellbeing across commercial shipping, cruise ships, and superyachts. Drawing on live, onboard data from seafarers across multiple vessel types, the report highlights how meaningful social connection supports morale, resilience, and inclusion, while also examining the impact of fatigue, long working hours, hierarchy, and onboard culture. The findings offer practical, evidence based insights and recommendations to help companies strengthen wellbeing, safety, and everyday life at sea.
