Calls and messages from seafarers across the maritime sector relating to mental health increased by 37% in Q2 2023 (April to June) across all helplines operated by ISWAN.

As well as family or relationship issues, abuse/bullying/harassment/discrimination, and repatriation issues, other themes in mental health cases included: isolation and homesickness, work-related stress, anxiety about physical health issues, and substance abuse issues.
