Webinar to explore initial findings of the Social Interaction Matters (SIM) Project

We are delighted to be hosting a webinar to discuss some of the preliminary project findings ahead of a full research report.

As part of the Social Interaction Matters (SIM) Project, ISWAN recently conducted a survey to investigate the barriers and drivers of social interaction on board. We are delighted to be hosting a webinar to discuss some of the preliminary findings ahead of a full research report.

The SIM Project was established to help shipping and ship management companies improve seafarers’ social interaction on board, with the aim of positively impacting the wellbeing of their seafarers by adopting strategies that will increase this. As one of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic often means extended time on board for many seafarers, crew cohesion is especially important.

Over 900 maritime stakeholders responded to our survey and the results have highlighted some particularly interesting areas for discussion, including the impact that changes in modern shipping have had on seafarers’ opportunities and motivation to socialise on board.

The webinar will be hosted by Caitlin Vaughan from ISWAN and Dr Kate Pike of Field-Research, who will present the main findings of the survey and the way forward for the project. The presentation will be followed by an interactive Q&A session with the audience.

The webinar will take place at 10am BST on 9 July 2020.
