Ex-seafarer raises over £3,000 for seafarers and their families affected by COVID-19 crisis

Last Thursday, John Diamante completed a 100km run to raise money for the ISWAN Hardship Fund.

Last Thursday, former seafarer John Diamante ran 100km in one day to raise money for the ISWAN Hardship Fund for Filipino seafarers and their families.

John’s incredible feat, which he completed in Norman Park in Bromley, UK, took more than 12 hours and raised over £3,000, more than triple his original target. The funds raised will be used to support Filipino seafarers and their families experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After completing his 100km run, John told ISWAN: ‘I pushed myself to the limit to succeed in a challenge to help others and their families in need.’

John was cheered on by friends and supporters from local running groups on the day, and was joined by ISWAN’s Executive Director, Roger Harris, at various stages throughout his run.

Roger said: ‘John, a friend of mine, ran over 62 miles in the heat to raise much-needed funds for Filipino seafarers and their families. It was a remarkable achievement and we are so grateful to John for his fundraising for the ISWAN Hardship Fund.’

There is still time to donate to John’s fundraiser – please visit justgiving.com/fundraising/john-diamante.
